The truth about Botox touch-ups.
Why do so many aesthetic clinics routinely schedule a two-week Botox touch-up? Discover the commercial reality behind this industry standard, and learn Kansai's approach to Botox follow-ups.

When researching botulinum toxin ("Botox") treatments, you will quickly notice a ubiquitous industry trend: many clinics automatically schedule a two-week touch-up appointment before you even leave the chair.
Because this practice is so widespread, patients often assume a second dose is a standard, medically necessary part of the process. In reality, a touch-up is rarely an inherent requirement of the treatment. From a clinical perspective, a botulinum toxin treatment should be fully effective, balanced, and aesthetically complete from your very first session.
To understand our unique approach at Kansai, it helps to look at the commercial mechanics behind why the default touch-up became an industry standard in the first place.
The reality behind the default touch-up
In the broader, mass-market aesthetic industry, the automatic two-week follow-up is less about patient care and more about operational strategy and commercial upselling. Large, franchise-style chains typically rely on this model for three specific reasons:
The "free top-up" illusion: Many high-volume clinics market the two-week visit as a complimentary perk. In truth, there is no such thing as a free touch-up. The cost of that secondary product and the doctor's time is already baked into your initial, inflated upfront fee. You are paying for two appointments regardless of whether your facial anatomy actually requires the second one.
Commercial upselling & patient retention: Bringing a patient back into the clinic creates a powerful commercial touchpoint. Once you are back in the chair, it opens the door for practitioners to upsell complementary treatments, skincare products, or future packages. It is a retention tactic designed to keep you in their ecosystem.
A safety net for beginners: High-volume chains frequently serve as training grounds for newly qualified injectors. Lacking the seasoned experience to confidently deliver the optimal dosage in one sitting, they rely on a cautious, split-dose method—injecting conservatively on day one and fixing the gaps two weeks later.
While this assembly-line model protects the profit margins and logistics of corporate clinics, it treats the patient’s time as an afterthought.
The boutique approach: Precise dosing from day one
Kansai is a premium boutique clinic. Our philosophy is rooted in uncompromising medical expertise and bespoke care. We believe that true luxury in aesthetic medicine means getting it right the first time.
A well-trained doctor possesses the deep anatomical knowledge and refined technique required to accurately calculate and apply the precise dosage during your very first visit. Our medical team takes the time to thoroughly evaluate your unique facial dynamics upfront. By mapping your muscles accurately from the start, we deliver a beautiful, natural, and complete result in a single session—saving you from an unnecessary second commute.
Intelligent, personalized follow-up that respects your time
Choosing not to schedule follow-up appointments by default does not mean we do not prioritize your aftercare. At Kansai, we simply believe follow-up care should be as smart and individualized as the treatment itself.
Because botulinum toxin takes between 10 to 14 days to fully settle, its true efficacy cannot be evaluated any sooner. Rather than forcing every patient to waste time traveling back to our Brussels clinic for a brief, five-minute visual check, we utilize a streamlined, digital-first assessment:
Our 4-step follow-up process
The settling period: We ask that you allow your treatment a full 10 days to completely manifest its results. However, please ensure you do not wait too long either; follow-ups cannot be guaranteed if requested more than 14 days after your initial appointment.
Photo submission: If you feel an adjustment is needed, simply send us a clear, high-resolution photo or video via WhatsApp or email. When capturing your images, please ensure you actively move the treated muscles exactly as requested during your treatment session (such as frowning deeply, lifting your eyebrows, or smiling) so we can accurately evaluate your results.
Medical review: Your images are forwarded to your treating practitioner who performs a clinical assessment.
Tailored action: Based on the assessment, your practitioner might invite you back to the clinic if your situation calls for either of these steps:
Clinical corrections: If we identify a genuine clinical asymmetry or under-correction, we will promptly invite you into the clinic to correct it free of charge.
Aesthetic additions: If the initial treatment is clinically perfect and symmetrical, but you personally decide you would prefer an even stronger, more frozen effect, we will happily administer additional units at our standard rate of €10 per unit—provided that doing so is entirely safe and medically responsible.
By assessing our patients digitally first, we ensure that in-clinic follow-up slots are strictly reserved for those who truly need a physical adjustment. This approach respects your calendar, eliminates empty appointments, and ensures our clinic remains a calm, unhurried space dedicated to delivering exceptional care.
